Cameras to replicate a 50mm lens

I am producig wireline style visualisations of windfarms, very simple stuff but the relpication of a view taken with a camera is quite important.

I have been doing fine producing my views at 50mm and plotting them from model space but I have a few queries.

- when I increase the focal length of the camera in the propeties box the field of views also increases but if I manipulate the camer glyphe the field of view decreases as it should

- When plottig in paper space I get a different horizontal fied of view depending on the shape of the viewport, even if I re-apply the camera to that viewport. So the properties of the camera say FOV= whatever but clearly that changes depending on the shape of the vieport - makes no sense to me.

-I will soon have to prouce images that replicate a number of photos stiched to form a panorama and tips of doing this - it seems I could do this just by using a wide panoramic viewport but how do I know the perspective is right for a 50mm lens.

the incorrect reporting of the field of view is an autocad bug.
to get the correct field of view you must:

units
untick clockwise
direction> base angle = east
