Wireframes behaving as if solid / hidden in AC2011 - how revert to old behavior ?

I just checked my 3DSELECTIONMODE. It is already set to "1".

I also just tried switching from 2DWireframe to X-Ray to see if that would help, but I'm still getting the exact same results.
