New Glitch in the Matrix

Finally have the new system up and running but now I've found a new glitch in my matrix. When I double-click on a dimension or multi-leader to perhaps change the arrow size or text height, or whatever, the Properties panel opens onthe side and then hesitates as it propogates the fields. And if I click in one of those fields to change a value, the entire panel will go blank for a second and then the fields repropogate and literally "tile" down the panel length. It's not the Hardware Acceleration setting, I already tried that. It's not a single drawing as it happens in any drawing, even a new one. I would appreciate hearing anyones input on what might resolve this issue for me. (Personally, I'm amazed at how many bells and whistles that I have turned on in AutoCAD over the last couple of years, and then totally forgot how to turn them on again when I loaded it onto the new computer! Crazy.)

You might try AutoCAD's Repair option.

Thanks, ReMark, but after running Repair through Control Panel > Programs and immediately opening a "virgin" acad drawing, then placing a random dimension in Model Space and double clicking that dimension, the Properties Palette continues to behave in the same manner. I found a posting at the AutoDesk Forums where someone was having apparently a similar issue with AutoCAD 2010 and an NVIDIA Graphics Card in August of last year (that feels funny saying that today), but no additional postings occured in the OP. I notice that the AutoDesk Graphics Hardware List for an NVIDIA Quadro FX 1800 running AutoCAD 2010 shows only three (3) drivers listed for Supported/Recommended (with only two (2) of those drivers shown as supported) and the driver that Device Manager is listing for NVIDIA does not match any of the Supported drivers. My currently listed Driver Ver 8.16.11.9175 (Driver Date: 12/4/2009) is apparently newer than Driver Ver. 8.17.0012.5912 but mayber not as new as Driver Ver. 8.17.0012.5912. Windows Device Manager says that I have the latest driver updates. Maybe I should just download the newer driver version (8.17.0012.5912) and push the install. The OP on the AutoDesk Forum posted a question that I do not know the answer to, but thought I would throw it out here, "Does AutoCAD use the video card to draw the interface has well (WPF??)".

On my Nvidia control panel, under 3-d settings, there is an option to enable or disable "PhysX GPU acceleration". On my machine, having that enabled makes a noticeable difference. You might tinker with that.

True, but it don't cost much to try it both ways. Its just a radio button to click.

Thank you, Jack, I appreciate your input. "PhysX GPU acceleration" was Disabled (I believe that to be the default) and "Enabled" had no effect upon my Properties Palette scenario. I did download the last Driver Ver 8.17.0012.5912 shown on the AutoDesk Graphics Hardware List but I'm inclined to hold off on that install until I ascertain if there is maybe another answer.

Since it often drives me nuts that an OP will not follow up their original post with any resolution they determined for their issue; I offer the following information.

When I started working with AutoCAD, I had it loaded on my laptop. The Properties Palette window that would open upon the double-click of an item was no more than maybe 5” in length, and no issues were ever noted with the display of the Palette. It was small but appeared to function properly. Upon loading AutoCAD onto a new computer with an “exaggerated” video display and producing a Properties Palette window that is over 13” in length, was when I felt I had found an issue.

On the January 2nd, I downloaded and installed the AutoCAD Product Update 2 that I had found for AutoCAD 2010 (why doesn’t AutoDesk offer Automatic Updates for this program?). No change. I downloaded and installed the latest video card driver (8.17.0012.5912) from the AutoDesk “Supported/Recommended” listing on their website, with still no change. I also searched for any other possible updates that may have an impact on my issue and found none. By now I was resolved to “just work with what I had”. I had never used the Quick Properties feature on my laptop since the pop-up screen always seemed to be in the way, but I found that the Quick Properties listing could be customized and would function “satisfactorily” in my new environment.

Yesterday, I accidently double-clicked an item in a drawing and the Properties Palette opened, but for whatever reason it was now a window only about 5” in length. Because my so-called issue was still recent, I clicked on a property in the palette (just to check) and noticed that I did not see the telltale cascading or tiling of the values as they repopulated within the window. Then I expanded the window to full-screen length and the properties display was behaving as before; reduce the window back to a much smaller size and I did not see the “changing of the guard”. Had I stumbled upon something here? Maybe. My bottom line is that when the Properties Palette window is kept small (~ 5” in length), I do not see this repopulating of the fields in a cascading effect within the display every time a field is entered but when I view the window in a full-screen length (~ 13”), I do. I am still uncertain about this behavior, but in a matter of days I have also become comfortable working with the Quick Properties function and may just continue to work in that manner.
