is their a way to set the perspective view camera distance?

i created a tower like shape and viewed it from the bottom looking up but the perspective view showed the tower looking larger at the top, clearly it should be smaller :S

Clearly, the view you currently have is not in perspective at all. You have 2 options:

    a) use the perspective projection option of the 3DOrbit command (right-click while in 3DOrbit).

    b) use the DVIEW command using Points and then Distance to create your perspective.

No, I was viewing the object in perspective.

I use the zoom in/out using the scroll wheel along with using 3D Orbit to achieve the camera, Target, Distance, POints, Pan Zoom and TWist effects.

I have also encounter a few situations where the perspective view was hugely over exaggerated and despite altering the view I couldn’t get the object to appear normal, if it occurs again ill post a screenshot, as it is hard to describe what is actually happening.

The effect of zooming in a perspective view is to change the focal length. Could this be what is happening?

    Hi FazBear

To set the camera distance exactly to where you want, place a circle at the position you want the camera to be, then place another at the point you want to focus on. Set your osnap to centre then use the dview command and type po (for points). Firstly click on the circle at the target position, and then click on the circle at the camera position. Then type d (for distance) and press return three times. You should now have your model correct. If you now erase the last entity twice (erase / l / rtn erase / l /rtn) you will have your drawing set up right with a camera of focal length 50mm (approximately the same as your eyes).

    All the best
