Introduction to AutoCAD (2010)

Hi All,

I am currently learning how to use AutoCad through a Home Learning course, I am experiencing a few problems with certain exercises and was wondering whether I could get help/tips using this forum, and how best to attach drawings? I.e. which format to attach them?

The course I am following is an Introduction to AutoCAD (2010) and the workbook I am working through is by Alf Yarwood? Perhaps this is a book many are familiar with?

Could anyone please advise whether this forum maybe able to help so I can post some more explanatory threads on the certain drawings/exercises I am struggling with.

I am very new to AutoCAD and I am trying to teach myself.

Many thanks

Welcome to the forum!

I'm not familiar with that specific book, but feel free to post any questions you have. Some of the folks here may be, but I be we can figure it out in any case. Just be as descriptive and specific as you can be.

You may get asked for more information, and some of the folks here (myself included) tend to ask very direct questions. This is not meant to be insulting, so don't take it personally if someone sounds a bit gruff. For instance, a post with the single question "why can't I make autocad do this" with no indication as to what "this" is will not get you much of a response. You may get referred to the help files from time to time, and I very much suggest you try that before taking the time to compose a question. Autocad's help files are context sensitive, in that if you start a command and don't quite know what to do with it, you can hit F1 while still in the command and the help for that command will open in front of your drawing so you can see how it works. This allows you to hold your place in your drawing, get an explanation and go right back where you left off. No need to cancel the command and go dig around for it yourself.

Attaching drawings can be tricky, as the file size must be under 500 kb if I recall correctly (moderators, correct me if I'm wrong on that please). A simple screenshot posted as a jpg can help a lot. Let me know if you don't know how to do that, it's pretty easy.

General questions on how the forum works can be answered here: http://www.cadtutor.net/forum/faq.php?faq=vb3_board_faq#faq_vb3_board_usage.

Dive in and have fun. There is a very good group of very knowledgeable and friendly folks here. I 've been using Autocad for 20 years and learn new stuff all the time by participating in these discussions. Welcome and enjoy!

Again, welcome and ask all the questions you need to.
