AutoCAD 2012 - Some anomolies I have encountered.

The ability to close a drawing by clicking on the "X" in the upper right hand corner sometimes disappears entirely and the only way to bring it back is to change workspaces.

Working in a 3D workspace and some of my extruded objects appear dashed as though I had selected them when I hadn't. A Regen clears it up temporarily.

Despite turning Dynamic UCS off (first thing I did when I switched to a 3D workspace) the UCSicon acts as though the feature is still enabled. No solution found yet. It is quite aggravating.

Leftover from the last release or two: Online Help still sucks and the distraction of the ViewCube.

Anyone else experiencing gremlins?

I see Autodesk still likes to release yearly versions even though the bugs from the last few years still go unsolved and even toss in a few new ones.

I am really getting tired of the help feature on 2011. I use Bing or Google and getter better results.

What has Autodesk's response been on these bugs and glitches?

Pretty sure I will not be moving up to AutoCAD 2012 anytime soon if at all. I should be moving on to Bentley AutoPLANT, Sieman FactoryCAD or AutoCAD Plant 3D in the near future.

I have had problems with 2011, but have attributed those to the graphics card on my machine. The ViewCube I can live with in Model, but seems to get in the way in viewports.

I created a rectangle on layer "0" (default color: white) that I then extruded. I moved this to another layer that had a different color. The object would not take on the color property of that layer. Even using the Match Properties command I could not "force" the object to assume the color. It remained white.

Which workspace were you using when this happened? I experienced a similar phenomenon in 2010. Changed to Autocad classic, and the problem disappeared. Switched back to the 3d modeling workspace, but was unable to recreate the problem. It's happened a couple of times, but its nothing I've been able to recreate intentionally. Never happens in the "classic" workspace however.

And now this.

Opened a drawing (2D piping and instrumentation diagram) I last edited and saved in AutoCAD 2010. I get an AutoCAD Error message window with the words: Unrecognizd version and cannot be read. Managed to somehow bluff my way through it but when I went to close the drawing the error message returned. 2012 has a problem reading 2010 file format? Wow! That's a hoot.

I was in the 3D Modeling workspace at the time. The workspace is one of the 2012 defaults. No changes were made to it.

I just stay in the classic one now. It seems to cure several of the evils associated with the ribbon and it's "improvements".

I think my new work system (see Computer Details to left) is just about right for the work I do but if I every get invited on Jeopardy I'll take another look at the Cray CX1 Jack.

Turn the viewcube off in Options, 3D modeling... ?

Help is getting "worser and worser".

Are in a visual style other than 2D?

The visual style at the time was 2D wireframe. I don't find the mass of lines confusing as some do. I only switch to Conceptual or Realistic when I want to check something.

Sounds like all of those (except help) are graphics card related. I can't reproduce the problems here, so far. Time to start up the nvidia controls and start tweaking.

In 2012 you can use the viewport controls symbol while in a viewport or in model space, upper left [+] or [-] symbol, choices will show once selected.
