Default Illustrator does not recognize DWG or DXF files...

But has it as an option to open it. I also tried PDF'ing the CAD file and opening in Illustrator but my shapes are construed. What do I do?

It's pretty big as well. Finish size is 61.75 x 122.125 inches.

Can't I just export an EPS file of my CAD file?

I ask all this because I need to fill these shapes with black and then send it to our RIP software. Anyone familiar with TOPAZ RIP?

In a nutshell, I create 3D models from the client's CAD files or design sketches, which I then use to produce high quality rendered images. Click on the link in my signature to view my portfolio. I'm always looking for work, so let me know if you need any renders. :)

What version of Illustrator and what version of Autocad?
Could it be that your version of Autocad is newer than your version of Illustrator, so it's not able to open the file?
Have you tried saving your CAD file down to 2000 format?

That did it! Thanks, Cad64! I saved the file as DXF 2000 and it opened just fine. I did have to scale it, though.
