I am unable to draw the gears which i have some samples.an example of the gear is ?di=4OLQ

  • Number of teethes: 25
  • Outer Diameter: 40mm
  • Inner Diameter: 33mm
  • Gear thickness: 13mm
  • Bore section thickness: 28mm
  • Bore diameter: 6mmm

This are given on another site but i had samples and i need to draw worm gear too for the gear.by the way how can we draw with this above sample and measurements.

I think you need a bit more information still. There is no detail about the actually teeth of the gear. You can insert gears in an assembly in SolidWorks by going into your toolbox and the appropriate folders(see image). You simply drag it into the modeling environment then fill out the properties. The big thing you are missing from your list there is Pressure Angle.

Here is a link with some info about gears and gear design.

Suresh, I did a quick search and came up with lots of information. You shouldnt get the pitch dimension, you should design it then build your gears accordingly. There are a lot of factors that go into gear design. I really think you should do your own homework required to design a proper gear set if you want them to work for your application.

matt

From last 8 months i am searching for this gears design but didnot did properly research in them.however once i saw a video in which we can use the dimension from spur gear to draw worm gear but i was missed that video somewhere.

I have two drawings of gear as annother person given to me in which it has pitch diameter and module and even the spur gear has same module and pitch diameter.

anyway as per my drawing i used toolbox and drawn that gear and the dimension was listed on other website too.

http://www.muffettgears.co.uk/pdf/P3%20mouldedgear1.5m.pdf

module 1.5

no of teeths 19

outer diameter 31.50

PCD 28.50

i think i have to go with same pcd to draw worm gear but how shall it can be done.Ill also contact to gear manufactures how they make gears.

Suresh, since you know the pitch of your gear thats what you will use for the worm gear.

In order to draw the worm gear you just need to draw your tooth profile and weep it around a helix. When you define your helix just use your Pitch for the gear. Then draw a sketch of your tooth profile on a plane perpendicular to your gear axis.

Does this make sense? If i remember right you are using solidworks 2010?

yes i am using 2010 and ill try to do it by tomorow since i am finalizing spur gear.

it is getting hard to edit this ready made gears using toolbox and customizing is their any method to do easily.

I am trying to make just like above image.sometimes it wont allow me to edit the thickness.ill try again to make the gear as just above image

If it wont let you edit the thickness(not sure why) you can always start a new sketch on the face of your gear, use convert entities which will bring all the outside profile of the gear, and simply extrude that the rest of the distance. Some of the toolbox components are very set in their specs.

Another thing you can do is create a gear using the toolbox, start a sketch on the face like mentioned above, convert entities to get the profile of the gear, then use Blocks to create a sketch block for the gear that you can use in a new part. I have a few videos i have done on Blocks but none specific to this. Blocks can be found on the Tools menu or you can turn on the blocks toolbar. You simply select which sketch lines you want(all in this case) then go to Tools>Blocks>Make. Once you have made a block, while its still selected, go to Tools>Blocks>Save. This allows you to save that block which can then be inserted into any sketch of any part. At this point you can start a new part and draw the gear from scratch using the shape of the toolbox gear.

I think the second option as you are saying that select sketch and place it in new sketch.I seen this in cnc wirecut EDM shop and i thought several times to ask this question but never got in my mind to post here.

I didnot used blocks ill check it today and see how they works.

I am been using this tutorial http://www.solidworkstutorials.com/2009/06/how-to-create-helical-gear/

and stucked at the step 15 the lofted boss or base doesnot select the sketch 3 to loft it can you tell me what i am missing ?

You have to select both sketch2 and sketch3 manually. You might have to click it twice. You can select the sketch in the graphics window if you dont want to select it from the Feature Manager.

I just did it their was some problem in sketch.so what shall i do in the next.where should i use pitch ?

my laptop was running slow due to so many drawings.is this is common or should i need to delete some drawings or use separate hard drive.also their has been previously viruses which made to run slow.

Suresh, i cant tell you what to do next time because all i have is a screen shot of your model. What were the sketch problems? What pitch are you using?

how shall i mention ppitch to this helix gear.I followed the tutorial which i posted in the post no 12.Let me know how to mention the pitch for it.

hi matt

i am back as i seen earlier that the second image was not their.Anyway should i use that pitch in this helix gear and also that tooth thickness etc.

or

Should i use this pitch to the first teeth on helix gear and draw remaining Teeths ?

suresh, you will need to know the pitch and number of teeth so you know how larger your gear will be. I would only draw one tooth and create a Circular pattern for the rest, but you must first know what the diameter is going to be of the pitch circle. If you can provide me some numbers i will try to make a video for this.
