bilalbajwa
Guys i am trying to model a wire mesh with no idea how to even start. Yes, i do need to model wire mesh, no textures allowed because i want to simulate a fan blowing air through it and then do some CFD i.e. Flow simulations on it. SW gurus please help me out how to model a simple wire mesh like http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://img.tootoo.com/mytootoo/upload/50/504221/product/504221_77159415b7b779caf741b8a2d193fedd.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.tootoo.com/buy-american_wire_mesh_importer_corporation/&usg=__cDG0LgHep6IDHwViM-g9wWaIzt0=&h=360&w=360&sz=29&hl=en&start=24&sig2=N6ZhBLw-G7oLeHPuJ_iGgA&zoom=1&tbnid=e3WGrDvOviB5NM:&tbnh=140&tbnw=141&ei=6L8HTtmRC7O00AHQj6neCw&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dwire%2Bmesh%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26sa%3DN%26rlz%3D1B3GGLL_enUS416US416%26biw%3D1680%26bih%3D778%26tbm%3Disch&um=1&itbs=1&iact=rc&dur=996&page=2&ndsp=33&ved=1t:429,r:15,s:24&tx=97&ty=39&biw=1680&bih=
bhamze
Here's one approach. It was created with SW 2011. If you cant open it let me know, I will post screen shots. Mesh.zip
bilalbajwa
Thanks for you reply. Since i have SW 2010 i cant open 2011 version. Will you pl. post a 2010 version. Thanks
bhamze
Sorry, the option to save in 2010 is not possible. Here are a few screen shots. I will try to post the procedure later, let me know if your interested.
bilalbajwa
Thanks I am dying to see how you did that. Thanks again:D
ReMark
A very rough approximation done using plain AutoCAD. I "eyeballed" it so the image is not exact.
bhamze
Here you go. Ive attached the .txt file for reference. Hope it helps. Mesh Curve.txt
bilalbajwa
That's is so cool. Thanks a lot. I never thought i will get a video in response. I am still wondering how you generated the text file . What are all those values in text file. I have a wire mesh in hand and i want to run analysis on it. I also have a digital vernier caliper to take the measurements but I don't know what the values in text file are? Please explain. Thanks a lot for help. bhamze
The text file was generated in Excel and is used for "Curve Through XYZ Points" in SW. The values in text file reference the XYZ coordinate system. When you use this feature you can enter data manually or import a text file. In this example we only want to create a curve on the XY plane. Therefore our Z value will be set to "0" for all points. See attached photo, I created a sketch and dimensioned the points so you can understand how I generated the file. Create a new part using the Curve Through XYZ point feature, enter the values manually based on image below. You will end up with a curve identical to the one I created. lighty
Well, this method seems elegant enough so I tried to produce a larger size mesh. It's all fine up until the point that when I need to copy/rotate basic solid. I simply cannot do it no matter what I try. I mean, I used the feature in the past but at this point I'm stuck and I suspect I might missing something. Any help would be appreciated. BTW - I uploaded file to http://ifile.it/e89j6n3/Wiremashprob.zip because of the larger size (~700 kB).
