Shadows and reflections are driving me nuts

Hi,

My girlfriend is working on autocad for her classes and she is having a lot of trouble with the shadows and reflections.

She is making a interior room and when she renders in 3D, the freakin curtains reflect on the floor, the wall, etc...On some views even the doors reflect on the ceiling...i've been searching google for the last 2-3 hours and she has spent countless hours trying to figure out why.

Im everything but an autocad pro. If some could shed some light, i'd be forever grateful

thanks

Bryan

p.s i don'T know what information else to include, if im missing something please tell me!

Can you post the render so we can see what's happening?

Also, what type of materials are being used on the floor, walls & ceiling? Are they highly reflective?

Thank you very much for responding so fast. Please hold on. My gf is making a render right now.

IMAGE.jpegHere is one of them.

As you can see the floor looks like a freaking mirror!

also on the left side there is a small cabinet but we cant see it since it is so reflective!

Also, sometimes she tries to put a ceiling white but it turns out gray!

It looks like you just have the reflection cranked up really high. Open your material editor and adjust the settings.

Ok we are opening up Autocad as we i type this to try and find the material editor. Ill brb

There doesn't seem to be the option to modify the wood she used to make the floor. its one that already is in autocad. materials she creates she has the option, not with the ones already in autocad?

That doesn't make sense. All materials can be adjusted. Even the ones that ship with Autocad. Can you post a screenshot of your material editor? I'm on 2010 here at home and I don't remember what the 2011 editor looks like. I think it's different from 2010.

Yeah, they completely changed the material editor in 2011 and made it much more complicated than it needs to be. Right now you're in what I think they call the material browser. You need to switch to the material editor to make adjustments to the materials. Take a look at this video:

That exactly what we are doing, and the material editor that comes up, has many options missing. like if editing was disabled or something :(

Cause we find the material we want, add it, click modify, and what comes up is a very restricted editor!

Strange! When we select the same material the woman in the video take (Masonry, common) we are aable to edit everything!!!!

But the wood floor we have, is not editable...very strange

Sorry but I don't have 2011 here, so I can't be of much more help. I'm sure someone else will be along shortly though.

I think i have it figured out...after checking it out a bit, i realized that certain files types were .PNG and some were .JPEG....so i noticed that jpegs could be editted and png's no...so i found the filepath to the .png and opened it up with paint and saved as JPEG...now i can edit. lets see what we can do

EDIT : BUmmer, even with reflectivity all the way down, same thing happens....mirrior effect :(

Bed time, ill check this thread in the morning. thank you very much

Thanks for the input guys. Well, it seems to be sorted out. The real problem was in PNG's not being editable. So i converted all the images eh wanted to use from PNG t JPEG and she now creates a new material and can play with the settings

Last little problem, her ceiling is always too dark. if she makes a white one, it turns out like dark grey etc. every color turns out very dark for her ceiling colour. any thoughts?

Even if you puts its bright white, it stays like that

So you're saying that no matter what color you set, it always turns out gray?

Can you post a screenshot of the material editor so I can see the settings for the ceiling material?

Here you go

I noticed that if she puts it green, it goes green but very dark green. Can it have to do with the lighting or something?
