Rotating UCS Icon/Coordinate System

Recommended Posts

I received a drawing from a designer some time ago showing the UCS Icon rotated so that the building / structure on the drawing was square to the screen but the original coordinate system was also maintained. Can someone advise how to do this as I often have to rotate drawings to suit a particular site coordinate system and then have to view the drawing at an angle on the screen rather than square on. With irregular shaped buildings or structures it is not so important but for most buildings it would be useful to look at the plan the way it was drawn so as not to give myself a crick in the neck! Cheers

First off you must understand that you have the WCS and the UCS. The World Coordinate System never moves, ever. The User Coordinate System is available for you to move, rotate, and manipulate however you may need to make your drafting easier. Smiley's way is definitely what you're after but there's one more step involved for even easier drawing capabilities.

Here is the steps:

Command: UCS
Current ucs name: *WORLD*
Specify origin of UCS or [Face/NAmed/OBject/Previous/View/World/X/Y/Z/ZAxis]
<World>: Z
Specify rotation angle about Z axis <90.00>: <Pick two points, or type in the exact angle you want>

Command: PLAN
Enter an option [Current ucs/Ucs/World] <Current>: <Enter>
Regenerating model.

The first step is how you rotate the XY coordinates around the Z axis. The second step will align the drawing space with the position of newly rotated UCS, making drawing much easier in weird angles. When you're finished using the rotated UCS, simply type UCS and hit Enter twice to go back to the WCS, then type PLAN and hit Enter twice to realign the drawing space.

Hope this helps. 8)

UCS OB this will set UCS to an objects orientation usuallly pick a line make sure its not 3d as this will tilt the ucs

ALSO !!! UCS S ie save the current UCS for use later you can have as many as you like when in a layout window UCS R restore a saved UCS then PLAN & Zoom like normal but leave your model at WCS for true co-ordinates.

Another remember when cutting and pasting between drawings have both in WORLD UCS.
