Coosbaylumber
I used to have a friend who is dead now but was quite handy with Autocad and local. He showed me a system to make A-C work faster, but cannot find the notes now. He said I was wasting time using the DFXIN option, as it slowed my home computer down. He used to go and edit out the blank spots in some file, then run it, and it would load up a DXF file within seconds. I now notice that my CPU light is on then for extended periods, near to the end of loading up some DXF file via the most common methods, it will blink on and off. Am I reading junk mail or nothing then, for all files tend to take 1/2 hour or longer to load up, they are big but not that big (some are 97 K and some are 252 meg), and would like to bleep out useless portions and save time on the loading process. What do I bleep out and where? Wm.
Patrick Hughes
If you do not have intimate knowledge of the DXF data format I would advise against manually modifying the file until after you've studied and experimented for a while. It is likely your friend knew how to parse the DXF file to remove blocks, layers , linetypes and such (like a purge). He may have also removed header information to further reduce extraneous stuff. The thing is the header is where layer tables and block definitions and etc reside. Maybe you can find some kind of DXF parser software?
