Can 3D Drawings be projected to 2D line drawings in AutoCAD without
    redrawing them?
    thank you,

    1. Add a hidden line type layer
    2. Draw your model
    3 .Daw>solid>setup>view
    4. UCS then type W enter
5.Draw a viewport around the model
    6.Enter a name (PLAN)

    REPEATE draw.solid>setup >view then O for ortho

make sure the viewports are in 2d wireframe before you draw>solid>setup etc

Now in layer properties everything with HID change all colours to 1 colour and change linetype to hidden

you will have to resize the hidden lines ( format linetype and change globel factor) this takes experience to get right so take your time.

    Hope all goes well
This is how to extract a 2d drawing from a 3d model in autocad and show hidden lines
USING AUTOCAD 2013 AND INVENTOR 2013, ALIAS 2013.

If in doubt scale and don't ask!

    Could you explain your procedure.
I am only dealing with lines in 3-D so I don't have to worry about solids
I don know how to set up in 2-d wire frame mode.
I don't know what to do with step 3 & repeate.
.Daw>solid>setup>view What does that mean? Do I type this at the
command prompt? What does draw.solid>setup>view the 0 for
    ortho mean?
    thank you,

SOLDRAW, SOLPROF and SOLVIEW create 2d drawings from solid models not lines. So you need the lines to actually be a model, eg promitives or revolves, extrudes etc

The easiest way for me is to select the view you want for you 2D line drawing. Once you have done that. Select the parts that you want saved as a 2D line drawing. Then select export (under the FILE menu) and eport your selection as a wtf (windows meta file). Make sure you know where you saved it (file loction). Then you can import it into another drawing as a 2D object with the import function also under the FILE menu. It will ask rotation (I always put 0) and scale (which I also put 0). Then you can edit it as a 2D drawing.

Hope that is what you where looking for!

WOW, i never thought of doing that for my 3D models... i tried it and HOLY ****, that will help me out BUNCHES in the future... lol

and it's prolly just a typo, but it's "wmf" not "wtf". and its easier just to type WMFOUT. only thing is, this kinda file works with Corel Draw, not Photoshop. i'd rather it work for Photoshop. haha

Could you not just use the express tools "Flatten" command and then save as another file name when finished?

No problem guys. Used to work with a guy that only used Form-Z and when he flanted his models..well..they sucked! So I started asking for them in 3D and would flatten them myself. He never used layers either
