Trouble Extruding a shape onto a cylinder (cutting).

I am having trouble extruding(cutting) a shape into a cylinder. I want to cut the cylinder with a certain shape but I want to cut it tangent to the cylinder instead of just straight down through it like a front view. Sort of hard to explain exactly...anybody understand? I'm using an older version of AutoCAD Mechanical Desktop 6.

You might want to download a trial of Inventor.

Yes, I know it is old...like 12 yrs old. It has a TextSketch option which allows you to create embossed text. But I don't see any way to do the same thing by making a profile and then extruding. I don't see an emboss tool anywhere.

Well in addition to Emboss - you need functionality to Wrap to Face, and I don't think the Inventor of the time

You might want to download Inventor 2012 trial (it is fully functional).
