Export to IGES in Version 12 Trial not working

Gearz Drums

Recommended Posts

New to the program but followed the instructions....IF I follow them to the letter, an *IGES file is created but it is only a 1 KB File of no use (an example *DXF File is 27 MB). I am trying this to see if Autocad is the solution I need to turn all my 3D files into IGES and STL. Does anyone know what basic blunder I am making?

Many thanks

Are you 3D models solids (run List)?

Are you trying to Export as IGES solids or as IGES surfaces?

Create a 1x1x1 cube.

Export the IGES.

Hit F2

Hit Alt Print Screen.

Open MS Paint.

Ctrl V to paste the image.

Save and attach the F2 image here and attach the original dwg and IGES file here.

What problem are you having with stl?

Are you aware that free Inventor Fusion will also convert files? ( I have to check on *.stl)

Why do you want IGES? Most people today use STEP rather than IGES.

Are you trying to Export as IGES solids or as IGES surfaces? There isn't an option between the two during export,so I would think the solid I select for export should export to solid.

Are you aware that free Inventor Fusion will also convert files? ( I have to check on *.stl) Inventor came with the Demo and it doesn't fare any better.

Why do you want IGES? Most people today use STEP rather than IGES. Well, some places do good CNC work but just aren't up with the times in software - and I need to get a variety of quotes, so I don't want to exclude those old timers.

I will try the experiment you suggested as soon as possible and follow up post.

Thanks, Mark
