neuri
the first 12 seconds, where he took a 3D model and created 3 other views with just a click. I know it's a plugin but is there a way for AutoCAD to do this as well? It would make life so much easier for me.
JD Mather
Look into solview and soldraw or better yet AutoCAD 2012 (I don't know the new command names in 2012 - but much improved over solview soldraw) or better yet a modern MCAD program like Autodesk Inventor - built from the ground up for this. ReMark
JDM: Are you referring to the new Base View command in 2012? VIEWBASE "The Base View button on the Ribbon (VIEWBASE command), creates base views from model space solids and surfaces. The base view contains all visible solids and surfaces in model space." Source: AutoCAD 2012 Help file. Note that there are two preconditions that must be met to use the command. They are outlined in the section of the Help file under the heading Procedures. neuri
i tried viewbase but the help file seems to mention that it only works with Inventor files. sure enough, it prompted for an Inventor file when i type it in paperspace. solview and soldraw appear to be my only option. neuri
What a coincidence, i just googled and that command came up. Having trouble though.. keeps saying There are no solids or surfaces that can be projected.

VIEWBASE will work just fine with an autocad Vanilla model. The command has more available options when processing views of an INVENTOR model. The commandline option Representation, and the last 3 options, BEND EXTENTS, THREAD FEATURES and PRESENTATION TRAILS on the Visibility option are unavailable for an AUTOCAD VANILLA solid, surface or xref. ReMark
Your options, in plain AutoCAD, for creating 2D geometry from a 3D object are as follows: 1. Flatshot 2. SectionPlane 3. SolProf or the combination commands of SolView and SolDraw 4. ViewBase
neuri
FLATSHOT doesn't work for Surfaces. Only Solids. I guess you don't have any 3D Solids in your drawing? I exported it from Sketchup 3D, it does appear so. I'll try making it a solid.
