Default scaling drawing after drawn @ 1:1 in model space

Registered forum members do not see this ad.

    Hi,
I am looking for some help. Is it right that I draw at 1:1 in model space and then change the scale to 1:250 (this is the scale i want) when I want to plot?
I am using AutoCadd 2002, how do I change the scale after I have drawn in model space??

    Thanks

Might not be the right way but you can select all objects and use the scalle cammand. For the scale size make it 0.004

Can i ask what your drew to have such a big scale?

Never scale the model! Instead when you go to plot select the scale you want to use in the dialog box. You can save your page setup by giving it a name.

thanks, the bit about saving settings under a name is great advice.

So, when I go to Plot settings, I would choose Plot scale:custom.......it displays 1 pixel = o.3575.

I do not know the number value I should give in order to achieve a 1:250 scale.

I am doing a landscape design. The original land survey was given to me at a sclae of 1:250......on paper.

a note: by the way, how to you come to get the value of 0.004, please explain a little.

    Thanks

The value of .004 is derived by dividing "1" by "250".

I agree with Paul Sweet who advised not to scale the model space drawing. Draw everything full size in model space. When it comes time to plot specify the scale. If AutoCAD doesn't provide the scale you want as a default then you'll have to input it yourself. This is done under the heading Plot scale. Select Custom then fill in the two boxes below it where AutoCAD allows you to set the Inches = Units ratio. If you have further questions post them back here so we can continue to follow your progress. Good luck.

Everyone here has given you good advice. The only thing that I would like to add is that you really should learn about paper space if you haven't yet. It is very useful tool when it comes to scale. If you need any tutorials about itdo a search on this forum, I'm sure that someone has written one.

our method is to draw at 1:1 and then insert a drawing blank into modelspace at the desired scale, usually 10 for GAs. Then we plot "scale to fit" - not exactly correct but good enough for our work.

I've seen it done that way before but (no offence intended) I can't stand it! It's so much easier to just drop a view port into paperspace drop your title block over top and set the scale of the viewport window the required scale. Don't have to scale the title block and once you have one titleblock drawing for each page size it doesn't have to be changed or scaled.
