Why don't you simply _MAPEXPORT only selected features to a brand new shapefile..?

I am new to 3D Map, but i do have some experience with ArcMap. I have a shapefile of which I am only interested in a small rectangular region. I have tried to use Boundary Trim to cut and delete all the shapes outside of boundary, but it just deletes everything in and out of the defined boundary. I should be able to do this, right?

Thanks for the response.
I am working with regional soils maps, some of the areas in the shape file extend far outside the parcel I am interested in. I really would like to trim them. I did find one possible reason the entire shape file is being deleted when I try to trim it; apparently I need to “check out” the shape file to allow it to be treated as separate areas… I don’t really understand it, but it seems to allow me to accomplish what I need to do.

The Boundary trim only works on AutoCAD objects, if the shape file was added by data connect it's an FDO feature(s) not an AutoCAD object. Either use the mapimport to bring the shape file in or export your map to AutoCAD DWG format, then use the boundary trim.
