Yeah this is a tuff one. Navisworks can measure arbitrarily, but for absolute dimensions I use autocad. There is a funky little snaps function in Navisworks ( Depending on what version you are using ) and it will snap to vertex, center and edges automatically. It can be found in global options interface/snapping. You might also go to measure and set the tolerance, colour and turn in 3d on. You will need to turn on your heads up display as well, so you will be able to know which axis you are measuring. This can be found ( Depending on what version you are using ) in the global options interface/display. There is a Navisworks forum on Cadtutor.
