    Default AutoCAD and .pdf problems

Registered forum members do not see this ad.

    Hi,

PDF files which are all Autocad drawings converted to .pdf format, we send to Customer have recently started to generate error "insufficient data for an image" when end user attempts to open.

We're stuck - Any idea why? Or how to troubleshoot?

    Here is what we know:
    - We scan docs to PDF, we can open them fine using Reader 5 or 6. Customer has access to Reader 3 and 5.
    - Scan to PDF using Xerox Document Center, I'm told it is config for PDF ver1.1, Acrobat ver 2.X
    - We attach to Outlook eMail and send to Customer, recipient can see the attachment however "insufficient data for an image" error. Click OK opens blank doc.
    - eMail attachment size is not the issue, small files fail.
    - When Customer uses "Save as" to disk, file size is same as the OK Sent file size. Cannot open the saved PDF from disk either.
    - When we post same PDF file to FTP server, Customer can download and read fine.
    - Not all PDF attachments are affected, sometimes 2 PDF files in same email - one will open OK, other will give error.

sounds like the end user. Acrobat Reader is up to version 7 now, get all the needed updates 1st for Reader and try it then, and see if it corrects it. beyond that i would guess it could be anything, unless someone here knows specifically what that error is tied with.

You scan the docs to PDF??? Why? Why not just print the CAD files to PDF? Download CutePDF if you need a PDF printer. This will save a step or 2 and might help your problem. Yes, try using the latest PDF viewer as well.
Please do not PM me with CAD questions. Post your question on the forum. Our users are the best out there and you'll get the best possible answer to your question.

Also you could consider to send the files in DWF format. The user can download the viewer for free.
It's nice to be nice, but sometimes is nicer to be evil!.

The reason we scan pages is because they are sent to us in papaer form with marked comments by hand. We have to send these to our client so we have to scan. Sorry didn't make this clear. I guess it's not really an Autocad issue but a adobe issue. Just thought someone here may have had same problem at some point.

I will try installing reader 7 but I am using Win98 so not sure if compatible yet, will have a look.

you are scanning in large format doc's using a Windows 98 Machine?????? WOW.

okay i have the answer to ALLLLLLL your problems... Round up about $500 and buy a new Dell or something. you're just too damn outdated. 1st thing's 1st, you HAVE to be up to date on all hardware/software or you will always find error in things you do. haha

I would but it's my works machine! My boss just will not invest in new machines so we have to make do.

It's just the printing of the .pdf files I have problems with.

Never mind i'll work round it I guess until we upgrade. (one day!)

not working with up to date things, such as computers, at work is like our fabrication shop welding on 20 yr old welding machines. at some point you HAVE to make certin contributions to your work evironment. i guess that tells me that your boss doesn't care about going any further in your work situations LOL
