How should I dimension an elevation of a very curvy sculpture?

Recommended Posts

I have a really curvy sculpture. How do I draw the dimensions of the elevation for it?

I have attached a picture of my drawing. I was told to do gidelines and show the dimension of them. However I find it not very accurate for the contractors to read. Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance:D

I agree Mircea, that certainly looks like a good job for ordinate dimensions to me, and pretty much of a nightmare with any other kind of dimension.

Can we see the sculpture in 3D please? There has to be more to it than that.

Is this the final form it will take?

For artistic stuff you need to make a model or scaled model.

You might search for information on how past projects like this have been done.

I think there is lots of information on Mt Rushmore.

For smaller manufactured artistic designs a model is made for casting or tracer reproduction.

In other cases the manufacturing CNC code is generated directly from the CAD model. The only dimensions given are overall envelope size and maybe a few critical locations and mounting holes.

Hi, sorry for the late reply.

@remark : the sculpture is just a basic piece just like the first picture you have provided.

Thanks for all the replies :D i will look into how i would do ordinate dimensions :D

Ordinate dimensions give either an X coordinate or a Y coordinate. Perhaps you could use Fields to give an x.y coordinate
