Showing openings entirely below or above the cut plane

ACAD Architecture 2011: I have a couple of 3d walls with high and low openings. Specifically one is an "Opening" with a sill at 0'-0" and head at 2'-6", and the other is a "Window" with a Sill at 3'-6" and a Head at 7'-0". Both cannot be shown with a single cut plane.

Since the cut plan can only be set to one elevation, is there any way to show both openings?

Welcome to the forum Tom.

I believe that you can edit the display of one or both of them to display both ABOVE and BELOW the cut plane, by
choosing one of the icons at the bottom of the DISPLAY properties tab, which will override the default display.

The trick to the solution is that the cut plane needs to be modified for the container (the wall in this case), not the object one needs to make visible (the window).

You can't just set an Override for either one or the other to show no matter what the cut plane height is? That's all I'd do.

If you just override the window, the window will show, but the wall will be solid. If you just override the wall, the opening(s) in the wall will show, along with whatever is in the opening to cause the opening to be there (the window(s)). It makes sense actually - if you want to see the opening in the wall, override the wall...

Can you post the file so I can take a look?

The attached file has 2 different walls. One has an opening with a head at 2'6" (sill at 0'-0"), the other with a window that has the sill height set to 3'4". The cut plane (for the drawing) is set to 2'-0", which would normally not show the window.

The override is in the cut plane for the wall the window is in (look in the properties palette, "display" tab).
