Assuming that PICKFIRST is set to 1...

    Select the object(s)
    Right click, choose properties.
    Change the layer there.

If you use the Object Properties (or Layers) toolbar, depending on the version, you can also select the object, then choose a new layer from the layer drop down menu.

You can also use the CHANGE command.

You can also use the CHPROP command.

Also you can select the objects and from layer combobox select new layer for these objects
All I say is only my opinion.

Also match properties will do it.

Express tools also has two ways to do it. The 'change to current layer' command is self explanatory. The 'match object's layer' is like match properties, but it only changes the layer.
