Acts like a group but NOT a group

I’m using trying to use 3ds Max design 1013 and Sketchup 8 pro, when I import a Sketchup model into 3ds it imports and renders with no problems and really looks great but……., I am unable to edit the model as it appears to act as a group, yet under group setting this is not so edit as poly will work to a degree.
Question how can I ungroup this object, and make turn this model into individual sections.

Switch to "Element" selection mode and then click on a part of the model that you want to separate and then click "Detach"
