You cannot open a zip file with Notepad. What you posted above is the actual PAT file. There is no need to open it.

    1. when I open the ZIP file there is a PAT.Carter file ( the author)
    2. when i open the PAT. Carter file I see the codes ( patterns)
    3. when I get the codes ( patterns) there are spaces inbetween each code ( the coedes were all lumped together at first and now they are separated by one space...

whcih if these should I place in the C:\Custom Hatches

You have one PAT file and there are multiple hatch patterns within it? Fine.

Put that ONE pattern file in the new folder.

Please hurry...I think my time here on earth is about to expire.

Nothing. I tried to drag the patterns into the second window and nothing.
I wil work on this or get someone over here with experince in Windows 7. This is a brand new computer for me and a serious upgrade from what I had. I may have set something off line.

IF I can get the patterns by themselves into the CUSTOM HATCH folder..... what then?

Then you would open AutoCAD, go to Options, and add the path (C:\CustomHatch) to the Support File Search Path.

Right click on the PAT file and select COPY. Then go to the CustomHatch folder open it (there should be nothing in it), right-click and select PASTE.

    OK something good happened.

I went abck to the two hatches you sent me unbder ELONGATED MESH.
I put them directly into the CUSTOM HATCH folder as Diamond head and Spandex Nothing opened, just like that.

I went to Auto CAD and put in the same folder under ADD.

I can access both of them

when I put that Carter PAT it rejects it saying there is something wrong with the PAT.Carter

So now, i can at least put in hatches.

Why you elected to try and use this PAT.Carter file I don't know but after looking at the name I bet you have to rename the file and delete the portion that reads .Carter as that is probably what is throwing AutoCAD off.

    OK.

I have this almost under control.
I will go back in to the old download and download the exact file as it was written. I have no idea why or what I put with that Carter file.Whatever it was it was purely by error.

Regardless, i now know how to add HATCH files and that is something I did not ever think would happen.

To all those who have followed this thread I want to acknowldege that REMARK has taken hours of his time to educate me in this . I am not sure of anyone else who would have had the patience to guide a novice like myself through all these ins and outs.

My thanks to you and if i can ever help you in anything let me. I will be back with questions i am sure, but none as difficult as this one.

thank you one again. I will sort out the carter.pat thing. on my own .
