All AutoCAD 2009 updates/service packs loaded?
Have you purged and audited the individual drawing files?
When did the problem first occur?

When working on larger files AutoCAD shuts down without warning. I don't get the option of saving before it closes and it does not create a backup file that I can recover. No error message comes up either. It just closes as if I were to exit it.
The last time it happend I had 3 drawing files open.
2471 KB
13370 KB
21573 KB
Each file is used for the job that I was working on. We used to have all drawings for the job in one file. They started to get really big so we break them out now.
Could the files size have anything to do with AutoCAD just shutting down?
Is there a way to stop this?
The system we are running is:
Windows XP Professional Version 2002 Serivce Pack 3
Intel(R) Core(TM) 2 Duo CPU
E7500 @ 2.93GHz
2.93 GHZ, 3.25 GB of RAM
C Drive has 298 GB with 37 GB used
Any help or ideas would be great
Thanks
Matt

Have you looked in your AUTOSAVE file location for a safety?
OPTIONS > FILES > AUTOSAVE FILE LOCATION (this will show you the path for these files on your computer).
You are not looking for a .bak file there, but rather the ac$, which if it hasn't been disabled should auto-save and the default is every 10 minutes.
You will need to save the file type to .dwg if you find it, then open it as usual.

I purge all the time.
Not sure if we ahve all the updates, patches and serives packs for 09. We have three, have not lookied into this yet.
As for AutoSave it sucks. I turn it on and set it a 30 min and it seems to stay on for a few days, then I check it and it off. Not sure what the deal is but everyone in our office has this same AutoSave problem. When I same while working in the large files it takes a few seconds to complete the save. When AutoSave kicks in its kinda frustrating because while it save it locks up and you can't complete the task you started.
I know there has been alot of discustion about AutoSave wheather it good or bad. So I am not going to debate that.
I actual have a button on my mouse that is set to do a qsave. I use if very often, but not often enough sometimes I guess.....
Could the large files that I have open be the problem?? Others at work don't seem to get files so large and they don't seem to have the same problems.
Thanks
Matt
Do you purge Regapps first then do a purge > all?
Do you Audit the drawing for errors?
Do you pare down bloated scalelists?
Do you manage your layer filters?
Do you use any custom lisp routines?
Do you have the InfoCenter enabled or disabled?
What is Incremental Save Percentage set to?
Have you done a REPAIR of your AutoCAD installation?
Have you run a virus-scan on your hard drive?
Do you get drawing files from outside sources?
What have you done so far to troubleshoot the problem?

Do you get any "Out of Memory" messages?
Try using the Windows Task Manager to monitor Memory and CPU usage.

Open one of the drawings and immediately run the AUDIT command. Here is an example of what you might see.
Command: audit

Normally I recommend trying a REPAIR of AutoCAD prior to an uninstall/reinstall.
Did you follow the recommended procedure for uninstalling/reinstalling AutoCAD as per AutoDesk's own published guidelines as found on the AutoDesk website?
