Default an entire drawing with only one layer

I just recieved a structural drawing from an engineer that has the entire drawing drawn on layer 0. This poses many problems for me as I need to differentiate text from lines and lines from lines. The darwing does have two colors although entities are still on same layer. Is there any way I can seperate the yellow lines from the red lines even though they are on the same layer?

    Welcome to the forum.
You can use the FILTER command to separate them by color, which will create a selection set, which you can then deal with collectively.
After selecting them I would change their layer in PROPERTIES.

If you are unfamiliar with the FILTER command it is very useful.
Should you want to select all the text you could do that with the FILTER command too,
although I would probably do that in my QUICK PROPERTIES palette.

Might this possibly be a block?
When you select a single entity on the screen, does the whole drawing get selection highlighted?

QSELECT would also do the job.

I would use quick select, then select all the parameters 'multiple / color / = / red' then change the layer. You can then use this method again to separate the text / geometry etc from the new layer.

Quick select can be very useful to select huge amounts of different or awkward to pick entities and adding or removing certain other elements from a selection. It can be tricky to use at first, but when you play about with it and understand how it works, then it is a great tool.

Thanks to all, although not familiar with filter, I played with it and it worked great. Also tried Qselect as I was on a roll and it also did the trick . Thank you all

One of the great things about FILTER is the ability to save a filter once you have defined it, so that you can use it another time, for common tasks.
It is nice to have what you need predefined in that way, so you just choose your filter, then when you need something different, or added to an existing filter for a one time
search you can do that, without saving the changes to your base saved filter.

Glad you got it sorted out.
