Default Adding info from google maps

    Hi,

I'm working on a project looking at modifying cycle routes. I just discovered that they've been added to google maps and I was wondering if there's a way to import the cycle routes from an area on google maps into CAD. If not, I can draw them in on the OS but it would be time wasted if there's a way.

I thought maybe on AutoCAD WS on chrome, but it seems limited on the mapping features available.

    Thanks in Advance

So you want to import the road markings or similar of the the cycle route from google into AutoCAD?

I'm pretty sure this is not possible. I've done many many TTM (temporary traffic management) drawings and I used google maps to view the road markings, but I always had to draw them manually (or create blocks for certain things like directional arrows).

However, I think http://www.promap.co.uk/ can supply UK OS maps for use in AutoCAD which contain road markings. Not sure how much they cost but if I remember correctly, you can pay for them by a user defined area (instead of 1km tiles), so, depending on the size of your project, and if it is based in the UK, the site might be worth looking at.

Cheers for the response. Not exactly (being able to extract roadmarkings etc would be impressive since it's from a photo!).

If you see the image attached, you can see the cycle paths which google shows in bright green. I'd like to be able to take that layer and add it to a drawing.

I've manually drawn it in now, but for future reference it'd be interesting to know. The GIS database info would need to be accessible or something I guess, I'm not really sure how it would be achieved. (that's where you clever folk come in )Cycle routes.jpg

I use a program called Global Mapper and it will convert just about anything to just about anything. I have used it to go from: KMZ/KML to SHP, DWG to SHP, DWG to KMZ/KML and so on. Global Mapper is pretty user friendly and you can do a batch conversion/projection without even opening the source file. You might want to give it a look.
