Revit 2012 - Windows in Residential

Hi all, it is ages since i have the time to be learning Revit!!!

How is it best to insert windows that aren't in the standard libraries? I mostly deal with domestic extensions (I know, I know, Revit is like cracking a nut with a hammer for this type of work, but...), and each existing windo is slightly different in size and fenestration. I am looking for the easiest way to create each window as individuals. Is it possible to load a certain standard window (closest match) and modify it (only after duplicating obviously!)? Or is the best way to introduce a curtain system and add mullions where required? I had a quick go with the latter and i found that the frames (mullions) don't clean up well??? Any ideas?...
