Select objects on screen in large groups without hitting object- used to be able to

For selecting objects, I must have hit a buttom trying to figure something else out and now I can't select objects without touching them and clicking on them, I used to be able to pick whole sections.

looks like you have PICKADD set to 0

try setting it to 1

still doesn't let me select using a box around all hte items i want
