    Default Light pass through a solid

    Registered forum members do not see this ad.

    Is it possible to get light to pass through a solid when glass is applied to it?



    as you can see I have modeled a kitchen wall unit with a glass front and set up a spotlight inside, when I render it the light cannot be seen through the glass, anyone got any ideas or had any other similar problems.

    Ok what i did was:
    crate the solid,copy the front face(it creates a region),extrude the region say 3-4mm(it represents the glass),shell the original solid/wall unit(remove the front face and shell say 1.5-2cm).....in my case i've placed a point light inside the wall unit and added a spot light outside just so i can see the whole object.
    Now i'm sure there's another way to do this but this procedure was the first thing to pop into my mind

    I have this

    what I am wanting to achieve is the light to illuminate the glass, without having to manually illuminate the object, I’ll upload a img of what I am aiming for later.

    ok here we are. I have just illuminated the glass to give the effect of light refracting inside, I was hoping to achieve this by use of internal lights alone as with illuminate, the illumination is too uniform but I think this is the best I will get it.



    I am going to change to shelf inside the unit to glass to allow some light to pass through into the bottom part of the unit.

    So heres the complete picture but with light the light passing nicely through the glass.

    Which, the glass? I have the shininess set to give a nice reflection but it is slightly distorted by the bump map, the other materials such as cooker/fridge freezer are mirror like but have nothing to reflect as I have clipped out the front wall to enable a frontal view. see below for full model.

    Nice render, bendy refraction on the fridge door is cool.

    Maybe a tad more texture to the walls ?

    Roughness adjustment may help the glass.

    Not done an acad render for a year now . Too busy with
    Inventor.

    I have a bump applied to the walls just need to alter the scale to make it visible. Renders taking about 35mins-65mins as it is need some new hardware!

    Roughness adjustment may help the glass.
    I am using 2007 havent come across the roughness slider like the earlier versions, render and material options have been dramatically changed so im still learning tbh. any tips will be very much appreciated.[/quote]
