Default snap to or trace intersection of face/mesh

Is there any way of snapping to an intersection of a surface and a mesh or even the intersection of two surfaces?

I'm guessing that you might be able to snap to some points using 3D Object Snap (F4 key) but since I don't work with surfaces or meshes I can't confirm it. Maybe someone else can.
