Mechanical Drafter question.

I am trying to land an internship and this place that does a lot of detailed drawings for manufacturing. They dimension 3D parts using solview and soldraw, and then create detailed drawings for their machine shop. So what's the best textbook out there that would better help me understand all the different views and industry standard when dimensioning?

You might suggest that they take a look at using the BaseView command. It creates 2D blocks of 3D models and places them in a layout.

I believe this book has been recommended in the past by forum member J.D. Mather ( a Professor by the way ).

You need to find out if they use ANSI Y14.5 Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing and make sure the book you purchase includes a good section covering that.

As for orthographic projection you can get drafting books that are older for very cheap online, like .99 cents cheap. http://www.alibris.com/booksearch?qwork=6580018&qsort=p&matches=338&cm_sp=works*listing*buyused

This one has a good section on GD&T along with most aspects of drafting, also can be had for .99 cents.

Or better yet, the ViewBase command... ....which replaces the older solview, soldraw commands and is much more powerful and associative.

Show them this functionality and they will be impressed.
