    Default Layer names

    Hello,
Iwonder if anyone can help with our little, but tedious problem we're having here in the drawing office: Someone in the past has bound several x-refs to all our drawings leaving layer names with as many as 30 letters in the strings, intersped with the symbols $0$ then with the names of the actual layer.
Our client has told us we have to adhere to his layer naming standard which means going through all the drawings and physically renaming the layers. Is there a lisp routine which will eliminate the x-ref name and the dollar 0 dollar from a layer name, taking care that there's no duplication of layer names.

    thanks

Have you tried the "rename" command? The dialogue box allows input of names with wildcards. So as long as there is no duplication you might be able to remove the xref name in one shot.
