ok, since you've been so kind please tell me why this is producing an error?

(defun roundnum (a n /)
 ((/ (float(fix (* a (expt 10 n)))) (expt 10 n)))
)

Your first opening parenthesis is not evaluating a function:

(defun roundnum (a n /)
 ((/ (float(fix (* a (expt 10 n)))) (expt 10 n)))
)

(defun roundnum ( a n )
 (/ (float (fix (* a (expt 10 n)))) (expt 10 n))
)
