dwg blocked for at least ten min when inserting or uploading an xref

I am looking for help what to do as every time I am inserting and xref OR uploading already insert xref, my current dwg sheet blocks (freezes ) for at least ten minutes.

Down the screen it says "merging x_..."

It is a case with one project only. When working on other projects from the same computer on same autocad (2008), everyhting is fast and normal.

I have purged and regen-d, remade the xrefs.

What is there to do???:unsure:
