Xref problem - xref is loaded but is invisible unless clicked

I have a strange problem with some xrefs and I don't know why it is suddenly happening on a few of my drawings.

The xrefs have been successfully loaded in my drawings with no issues until now.

I have an xref that is loaded as an overlay, in the xref manager it is there yet in the drawing it is invisible.

Yet if I click in some blank space on where the xref should be it appears visible and then disappears as soon as I escape!

I know it's loaded - its just as if it's loaded behind everything else and it makes the geometry in the drawing all jagged and out of sorts ?!

I've tried bring to front command and detaching and reloading it but to no avail.

Any ideas?

Have you checked the layer properties of the Xref's layer?

All the layers in the xref filter are on, unfrozen and unlocked. I have xref fade set to 90. I did notice if I turn the 2d model space background colour to white (from black) then the xref shows. However, it only shows it in black, then when I click on it it turns back into its proper colours and appears faded out.

I can just start again with another drawing, but it's bugging me and I'd like to know why it's happening

Try changing your visualstyle to 2D Wireframe.

Thanks, however the visualstyle was already 2D wireframe.

Are those layers locked perhaps?

Nope, everything is unlcoked, on and thawed, like wise for all layers in the xref file itself.

It's a mystery!

They aren't object or layer isolated are they?

With XREF Fade control set to 90, the XREF should be quite dark, at 0 it there is no fading or do I have that backwards?

Fade = 0 will be dark, Fade = 90 will be barely visible.

fade must be set to 0 and transparencydisplay at 0
