Installing AutoCAD 2013...

So....i recently got AutoCAD 2013 - student edition.

I downloaded the programme and i've got my serial number and activation code.

I've input serial number and code in order to allow the download process....CAD has downloaded and has installed....

Although now....

When i try to "activate" AutoCAD with the same serial number and code as it's recently accepted - it tells me my serial number is invalid?

Could someone please help?

Is there any chance this might have something to do with the fact that the other month....i tried to load a pirate (shhhhh) copy onto the same computer?

Has it stored some files somewhere etc?

Any thoughts/advice would be greatly appriciated.

Thanks

Originally.....i installed the pirated version but couldn't get the "keygen" crack code thing to work....(that was just the activation code though) i used a generic serial number....think it consisted of 9s and 0s.

Anyways....i didn't get that to work - so un-installed all things "AutoDesk" on my computer.

Then when i got this student version....i've done everything legit!

But it's not accepting the serial number....and i can't take the activation any further.

Seems strange as it accepted the serial number in order for me to download and install it.

When you uninstalled the pirated version did you at least follow the recommended procedure as outlined by AutoDesk on their website to insure a clean install? I'm guessing that you did not to that either. Ah, the law of unintended consequences. It will get you every time.

You're not wrong.

I didn't know there was such a page....

So...is it because of the pirated version that i can't install the student version?

It's possible there is something in the Windows Registry that is affecting the activation of your software. I cannot say that with absolute 100% certainty though.

mhmmm....doesn't sound like an easy fix then! B*#ger!

I wasn't sure what was causing it....but thought that pirated version might have something to do with it!

I'll give you a couple of links to start with and we'll see where this might lead.

Uninstalling an AutoDesk product....http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/ps/dl/item?siteID=123112&id=2887771&linkID=9240617

What OS are you running?

To disable the User Account Control click on the Start button, go to the Control Panel, then click on User Accounts. Depending on what OS you are running the actual name of the feature may vary. For Win7 users it is Change User Account Control Settings.

Do you know how to temporarily disable your anti-virus program?

I too am using Win7 on a 64-bit system.

Just added a couple more things to my previous post. You might want to check it out.

Well good luck. Keep us updated on your progress.

You're entirely welcomed. :)

1. So....i recently got AutoCAD 2013 - student edition.

2. I downloaded the programme and i've got my serial number and activation code.

3. I've input serial number and code in order to allow the download process....CAD has downloaded and has installed....

So many things wrong here.

1. 2014 no longer uses student banner. No reason to use 2013. No reason to pirate.

2. I don't even know what this means? The activation code is created when you activate your license. The process is download, install, (I recommend running in trial mode for 30 days to make sure all is well), activate. In the activation process you enter your serial number and product code. AutoCAD generates an Activation request code based on your SN and your hardware and sends it to Autodesk. Autodesk returns an Activation code to your machine (in the background) activating your license (you also get a email).

3. No codes are needed to "allow the download process", other than for you to log into the student community (your username and password).

4. illicit pirate activity.

Remove any traces of the 2013 using the links already provided and start fresh with 2014 and do it correctly.

Given your #3 comment - what is the url where you are attempting this download? (should be http://www.autodesk.com/edcommunity and follow the links.

I agree with JD there's a few things that don't add up. Greedy86, Did you download from the Students site of Autodesk or some other site that may be offering the student version for free?

Ermmm....

Well....i'm sure if i told you where i got it from - it would be frowned upon!

I downloaded the software - then when installing it, i had to input my serial/activation - which was fine.

But these same codes weren't accepted when "activating" it....

If you DID NOT download from the offical Autodesk Student site http://students.autodesk.com/ then you got took again. Can you say phishing and rip off?

Well this will be the thread I suggest people read in the future who are thinking of doing something similar.

A lesson learned the hard way.

At least you are trying to set things straight. That seems to be the better choice here.

FYI - In some cases there are always legitimate free versions of software that can be substituted. For example, DraftSight and nanoCAD are both free 2D CAD programs very similar to AutoCAD. I know for a fact that DraftSight even has a free 168+ page user's manual available for download. Not sure how many "pirated" CAD programs also include a user's manual.

I know....i know....

I just wanted AutoCAD on my own personal computer....so i can improve my CAD skills etc.

i've only ever done 2D drawings and would like to practice 3D modelling....

I know it's very much frowned upon....and ermm....i apologise for that :ouch:
