A thousand time too big??

New to SketchUp, I have imported a plan view from LT07 and started to work up a 3D model. I have a considerable problem with scale. I first realised when importing from warehouse the models were like specs of dust. then I noted that the imput of say a line at 2000 'mm' is indicating on SketchUp as 2000 'm'. My model is a thousand times too big, an office layout 27miles long??? As you can imagine it is lagging and crashing. The file is 44MB. Is there a way I can re calibrate to mm?

Welcome to CADTutor. :) Then, this must be a home office right? What? It isn"t even 27 miles long? You posted this in Sketchup, which I don't use, but your profile says Autocad LT 2007. Fixing it in Cad would be easy. I am guessing that your UNITS in the autocad drawing may be set to METERS, instead of mms. If that is the case then you could change the UNITS setting on your 2007LT, and rescale your drawing by .001 . You may want to create a copy of your file, and experiment with that one.

Here is a quick video that demonstrates the scale tool:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I_xqUsZnzJA

To scale up you would use a number greater than 1. So 1.5 will scale the objects up 1 and a half times. 2 will double the size of the objects.

To scale down you would use a number less then 1 in the decimal form. So .5 will scale the objects down by50% of the previous size. .75 will scale the objects to be 75% of the previous size

Scale has nothing to do with the file size. You must have a lot of entities in the file, or other bloating.

I agree, the OP needs to be smart about using SU Components (similar to blocks in acad). I bet he download items from the 3D Warehouse. Most of these are bloated so bad that they are almost not usable :(

Thanks Dadgad, You have identified the origin of my numerous errors, I had the units set to inches, which doesn't correlate with the 1000 times factor yet it has resolved the first stage of my correction process. I have altered to mm imported this revised plan into my initial drafting and it is spot on. A thousand times smaller? My original model as posted is dimensioned at 43565m long which, with 1609.34m to a mile does equate to 27 miles, unless I am being a total nube? Now I have rescale the original SU model to fit this new template... Why am I not so optimistic? Again thanks for your help.

I am taking on board all the helpful guidance posted by each of you, it can be a tad intimidating for the novice, (bit of a dinosaur) when presented with support from the ranks of a highly skilled and knowing elite. Regardless, I will suppress my vanity and embrace my blushes, for I have and will continue to learn. :?:?:?:?:? Thank you.
