Knz183
Hey guys, I'm new to using Inventor. I have a 2013 student version I'm working with and I'm stuck trying to generate a pair of spur gears. The ratio is 2-1 with the smaller gear being about 3". When I input my information I get error messages and my gears always end up over lapping where they're supposed to meet. Any help or advice will be useful. Thanks guys!
JD Mather
More information is needed. Pitch? The diameter is specified at the pitch diameter - not the OD of the gear. The OD will be the PD+2*addendum. What textbook are you using to learn about gears? The gears produced by Inventor are rough approximations, not true involute toothform and therefore will overlap just a bit. There is a way to output more accurate toothform - but it is usually overkill unless you will be making the gears yourself as most gears are purchased off-the-shelf. Let me know what book you are using and I can walk you though the parameters.
