It looks like an air return VENT.

Be patient there are a lot of HVAC folks on the forum, one of whom will

likely have a more professional description for you, and steer you to a list

of standard sizes.

Out of context it is hard to tell exactly what that is. I doubt if it's a diffuser or grille. It looks more like a heat vent that you would see on the side of a piece of equipment. Louver (as we spell it on this side of the pond) would be another good way to describe it.

Louver...yeah! OK...what do I win? I hope it's a 3d printer.

Congratulations sir, you have won a no-expenses paid trip to the Louvre in Paris, for you and

everybody else you would care to pay for.

Take it from an old school hot rodder. The 'object' is either a grill or diffuser, but each opening within the object is a louver, or louvre, if you live in Quebec. Hot rods used to get louvers cut into the sheet metal of the hood (bonnet, or engine cover) to let hot air out.

OP specifically asked for "What is the name for this type of partial slot for air passing ??" which is a louver or louvre.

I think you are right ReMark but from an HVAC point of view, I think they are different. The way I think about it, diffusers and grilles are usually attached to ductwork and can have slotted, screened, eggcrate, etc. openings. A louver is a slotted opening that allows air to flow through like to allow fresh air into a mechanical room or piece of equipment.
