ReMark
You WBlock it out to your hard drive where it would be saved as a DWG file.
Murph_map
Is this even possible? After I select the north arrow in my cad drawing what format should I save it as? Ken (GIS analyst - Cad beginner) If you want to use it as a North arrow symbol in ESRI it needs to be as raster image, BMP or JPG. Try the bmpout command and save to the C:\Program Files (x86)\ArcGIS\Desktop10.1\Styles\Pictures folder (for ArcGIS 10.1 version)
kltanker
This is a reply to the kind & effective help that REMARK & MURPH's replies were to me last week. I tried both of your methods and found both helpful, even with ArcGIS 9.3. REMARK's WBLOCK method seems to provide the most control over the size of the object inserted into the arcmap layout view. However the WBLOCK command would not work for me; instead the procedure I used: select the north arrow - right click - block editor - SAVEAS [this saves the object as a block.dwg] - open arcmap's layout view - insert - object - autocad drawing - browse to the block location. Thank you both for your prompt and effective help, Ken
