light emits from center of image instead of light source

hey everyone,

i am currently rendering an interior and when i place a light to illuminate the space, and test render it, the center of the image is the one brightening up, if i add more lights, that center will just grow brighter and brighter, until it will be over burned. but when you look at the location of the light source, its dark as if the it magically glows at the center of the image instead..

please help..thanks all

thanks JD,

by semi transparent shade or sphere, you mean inside a bulb or recessed pinlight?, yes, it is inside a pinlight to make it more realistic and the result was the same. it keeps on illuminating from the center of the image. :(

i also tried vray light in the form of a plane and i covered the whole ceiling with this but still, same thing.

How did you get a Vray light into Autocad? :?

Can you post some screenshots and renders so we can see what's going on?

Ok, that makes more sense. I was pretty confused when you posted in the Autocad section and said you had tried using a Vray light.

It could just be a weird problem with your Max file, and importing your CAD file into a new Max file might fix everything, but if it doesn't, please provide some screenshots and renders so we can see what's happening.

Also, are you importing the lights from Autocad, or are you creating new lights in Studio Max? Check the light intensity modifier for your lights and make sure they all have positive values. Negative values will actually have the reverse effect and will create a sort of black hole and darken the area where they sit instead of illuminating it.

i was hoping that would just be the problem and by creating a new file, it will fix everything but here is what came out.

well, i didnt place any lights at the bottom right portion of the room but it seems to be emanating light from that direction. and if i increase the value of the lights, or adjust to a brighter f-stop, or increase the primary bounce which is irradiance map, or anything to make it brighter, the bright portion on this image just gets brighter.

the first image is actually test rendered several times and its my final image to submit to the dean, they care more about the design anyways but if he notices the lights well then i have to really figure this out.. lol

by the ways my settings are: all standards for cad, all that i tweaked was the:

image sampler: adaptive dmc

antialiasing filter: catmul rom

color maping: reinhard with bright multiplier set to .3

primary bounce: irradiance map

secondary: light cache

Can you post full size images? I can't tell anything from those little thumbnails.

Also, you didn't answer my question about the lights. Are they studio max lights or were they imported from Autocad?

And where are your lights located? It would be good to see a wireframe screenshot so I can see the light locations.

can you please suggest a good image hosting site?,thanks, all i found in google are crap!. they reduce the image size and place a very big watermark in the middle.

i used vray ambient light for this, i didnt know you could import lights from autocad to 3ds max, i try that one soon...thanks for bringing it up:)

And where are your lights located

i placed the lights inside the pinlight fixture which are located on the dropped ceiling part, the one with the wood material in the ceiling, i subtracted a cylinder to the model of that dropped ceiling to where the pinlights would be so as not to bury the light and the fixture.

im currently using 3ds max 2011, i hear 2013 is out, does anyone know how much it costs?thanks.:)

For Images, you can post directly to CADTutor, just select the Image Icon on the top row of the reply box or select "Go Advanced" at lower right of reply box, then select "Manage Attachments".

3DS Max 2014 is the latest and is $3675 US, but monthly, quarterly and annual rentals are available, at least in the US.
