    Default Deleting Layers

The last Draughsperson who worked in my company created about 15 different layers on the borders. I have changed them as i want them all on the same layer but cannot delete the existing layers. Does anyone know how I can do this?

Essentially, AutoCAD will not delete layers that have objects on them or are referenced by block references. My guess is that you have a block in the drawing that still references those layers you can't delete. You could purge the block (assuming it's not being used in the drawing) and then purge the layers. Use the PURGE command - you may need to do it a couple of times.

It is possible to delete even those layers which either have objects on them or have blocks referencing them by using the Express>Layers>layer delete command in the Express tool bar. Just check your version.

This will also delete all objects on that layer and revise the blocks refencing those layers.. So use with caution.

Another option is to merge layers on the same express>layers toolbar so that all objects get to be on the same layer that you choose.
