LTSCALE....im confused

Alright, for some reason i have forgotten some basics. I am working with a floorplan which, of course, is drawn to scale in model space. I have an MVIEW view port in paper space. I have my LTSCALE set to 1 in model space and my custom Linetypes are showing as they should. When i set my Linetype Scale in the properties of my viewport to 1/96 (its a 1/8" = 1' scale viewport) it doesnt show the linetypes, it shows them as continuous. Why?

Should i be setting my LTSCALE to 96 in my model space instead? I hope not, ill have to rewrite my Linetypes....

Yep, you have to scale your lines up to 96, not down to 1/96. Think of it like you're looking at the great wall of china from 1000' up. 1/96" segments aren't going to show a gap in between, but 96" segments would show gaps.

Anyways, ive already begun to rebuild my linetypes. So 96 is the appropriate LTSCALE for my situation? For some reason i have 24 in my head. I am playing with the out of box AutoCAD linetypes and they look ok in both 96 and 24. Which should i use to design my linetypes appropriately?

Personally I don't play with the LTSCALE much. When in doubt, create your viewport to the appropriate scale (in your case 1/8"=1'-0") then activate the viewport and use the regen command to refresh your lines. If the lines look right at 24, then leave them there. If you want the segments to be larger or smaller, scale accordingly. Always test before commitment.

Checking mine, I have my LTSCALE set at 1 and I just use the autocad default HIDDEN2 or CENTER2 linetypes and they always look fine in my drawings.

Remember, your dashed lines will almost always appear continuous in model space so don't be fooled.

i see. well im still messing with things and its just not making sense. i went ahead and changed my LTSCALE in model space back to 1, then changed it back to 1 in my view port. i used one of the regular AutoCAD linetypes and it shows up like you said, as a continuous in model space but as a dashed in the view port. that makes sense.

and i guess i should have mentioned this before...im using an XREF of the floor plan in my main project. so when im in the original drawing i am set to 1 in MS and 1 in the view port. everything works fine. but when i XREF the original drawing into the main project it gets funky. my LTSCALE is still set to 1 and 1 in the main project but the lines in the XREF (the original drawing) show as continuous in the view port in the main project.

this seems so simple but its really giving me a hard time....

My best guess is that your xref drawing has custom linetypes that are configured to look right in model space. Am I right? If so, you need to change the linetypes in the xref drawing to AutoCAD defaults for them to xref correctly.
I am actually using an xref right now and it's linetypes appear correct in paperspace, so I know it's not an xref issue.

in the ACAD help (F1) look at this topic : "Scale Linetypes in Layout Viewports " (Found it be searching for "layout space line scale" and it's the 10th entry down for me).

My first guess would be that when you changed it in the xref dwg, it didn't change in the dwg that the xref was insterted in because the dwg with the xref inserted already had layers set up, and that overrided the reload in the xref manager. I would suggest for an easy fix, to delete out the xref entirely, purge out your layers, and then re-insert the xref so that it can bring in the layers as you have them set up now.
