Al H
hello, i am wondering if i can use an xref in a dxf saved file and if i do any changes made to the original will be updated on the dxf? there is a layout of the site and the Trimble machines get updated on more or less a daily basis, the way in which it has been done is by copy/paste/save as, which is fine but it creates margin for error if too many people get involved and multiple dxf files are created (which is happening). we have locked the original model so only those who should are updating, being the only CAD based guy here it falls to me mostly. but there are issues with rotational leave as i have no back to back and someone needs to update it when i am not here. it seems to me that if we have X no. of dxf files that are all referenced to the original it would negate the copypaste method that happens just now and people could easily take what they need from the dxf without touching the model. sorry for the long post, i am asssuming that layers will/always are paramount in the smooth operation of choosing what to show and what to retain on a specific drawing. thanks for your concentration and some of the stuff is thinking out loud, for which i offer my apology. Patrick Hughes
A DXF file is a static file that is 'exported" from the drawing. I don't believe there is any way it would be updated by an XREF change. I'm not even sure XREF objects would be exported without binding the XREF.
