INSERT COMPONENTS > NEW PART Question

Recommended Posts

I want to create a new part, based on an existing part. Basically, the existing part is an irregular flange, and I want to create a gasket, based on the design of that flange.

However, I am missing a step somewhere -

  • I open a new assembly;
  • I bring in an existing component (the irregular flange);
  • I select INSERT COMPONENTS > NEW PART;
  • I select the plane that I want the new part to be based on (to build the gasket);

(This puts me into "SKETCH" mode.)

  • I select "CONVERT ENTITIES";
  • I select all of the bolt holes & the outer and interior edges;
  • Then, click on the "OK" symbol;
  • I exit sketch mode;
  • I go to "FEATURES".

This is where I get hung up.

What is the next step that would give my new part "thickness'?

If I understand correctly (??)

If you have the sketch,

the next step would be to extrude... that is the thickness
