Add Rule in Assembly

Hi All,

This is what I want to do and please help me with it.

I have an aluminium section used for making doors and windows.

I've created a part file for it and extrude it for a distance like 100mm and named the parameter as "Length" in fx.

Then I place it twice in an assembly file as a horizontal segment and a vertical segment.

After that, in that assembly file I created two custom parameter "Height" and "Width" with different values like 1000mm, 500mm.

Then I went to Manage>Add Rule. Now for the vertical segment, I want to assign the "Length" parameter to "Height" and for the horizontal segment I want to assign the "Length" to "Width".

The problem is, you cannot do it! It takes the first rule and apply it to the second one too (See attached).

These need to be two unique parts, not the same part placed in the assembly twice. Since both items are referencing the same part, if you change that part, both items will change in the assembly. You could make a library feature of the section. And use that for to create two parts of different lengths. You could also use the Derived part feature.

Thanks for the reply and yes that is how I understood.

I have created the library but the thing is I don't have a list of different lengths. The length is purely variable according to the spec.

So, even when you insert the the part from the library because it refers to a part file not different part files you will get the same problem.

It would be awesome if I could assign a variable rather than fixed lengths as a list.
