Revit Wall and Structural Dimension

I am new to Revit and would like to ask a few questions regarding walls. I have created a new wall type with structural wall 200 mm with painting finish of 2 mm thick. For annotation, I want the dimensions to be inbetween the face of the structural wall. However, each and every time Revit is automatically deducing the thickness I have attributed to the finish. Furthermore, in wall definition, I see Finish 1 [4] and Finish 1 [5]. Is there a differences between the two? Thanks in advance for your advices.

Since the thickness is so small, I'd first check the precision of your dimension style that you're using. Turn it all the way up. Also, you might have to hover over the line you want to dimension to and use the Tab key to cycle the dimension string anchor point right on the painting finish layer you've created. I just think it's a matter of being "too small".

As for your question concerning the "Finish 1 [4], Finish 2 [5]", there is definitely a difference. The [x] is an indicator of priority for each wall substrates you add. Refer to this portion of the Help file for better clarification:

One solution would be to manually set the extension lines of the dimension to be on the structural part of the wall rather than the finish layers. Using tab, I can toggle between the left or right face of the wall or its center. I can't choose the structural part of the wall and if I could using so far unknown manipulation, i believe this would be quite time-consuming.

Another solution would be that there is a global setting so as to make the all the dimensions be from structural face to structural face (as if the finish layers do not exist).

In Autocad, I would draw a 200 mm. wall 200 mm without need to draw the rendering, plastering and paint coat. In 3D, I can apply materials directly to the surface of 3D walls using CTRL and dragging materials from the materials browser. I believe this is different with revit: we need to have two additional layers for painting.
