    Default Copy between Layers

I'm probably trying to do something differently than Autodesk wants me to, or using the wrong terminology.
In Generic CADD & Power CADD I used to do 2 or 3 story building plans in one file, with a set of layers for each story. I could copy lines & other objects from one layer to another layer to draw another story.
I haven't been able to figure out how to do this directly in AutoCAD. The least bad method I have come up with is to use CO to copy the lines & other objects I want and offset them, select them and use the Properties window to change the layer, then finally move them all back into position.
Is there a less tedious way to do this?

Use the "copytolayer" of the Express Tools. Start the command, select your objects > enter > Specify destination layer in dialog box > OK > for prompt "Base point or <return> to finish:" just hit enter to copy to exact same location.
